Thoughts on the Unthinkable: A Reader Response

Another worthy suggestion in response to Second Thoughts about the Unthinkable

Gotta love a man who is willing to rethink his position.

How about a law stating any president who declares war must send his firstborn to the front lines? If she has no children, her spouse or another close relative must volunteer to go. Infantry - no bodyguards, no special circumstances, just the 12-month tour of duty every other soldier receives.

That way, when a president stands before us shaking his head and lamenting the battlefield deaths or sadly relates the story of the legless soldier he just saw at Walter Reed, we'll know he really gets it.

I like it.

If the rest of you have any ideas along these lines, or comments on the topic in general, email me. I'd love to hear them.
