The Fight to Restore Habeas Corpus

The good folks over at True Majority are joining the fight to restore the constitutional right of habeas corpus to U.S. citizens.

The purpose of habeas corpus is to make it impossible for any government official, including the president, to illegally imprison people. It does this by giving them the right to petition a court to investigate whether they are being properly held. Without this protection, the president could, for example, imprison you for disagreeing with him and throw away the key.

This is not a partisan issue. A liberal president could do the same thing, for the same reason.

The bad news is that congress took away that right, in practice, in last October's "Military Commissions Act".

The good news is that there is a move on in the legislature to bring habeas corpus back. You can help by going here.
