ABC Hides the News about Kucinich

Last week, I posted an interview with Dennis Kucinich and made some favorable comments about his positions. Apparently I was not the only one impressed.

An ABC poll, after the last debate, titled "Who Won the Democratic Debate" showed Kucinich significantly ahead on Monday afternoon.

But that's where it gets interesting. ABC removed the poll when it showed Kucinich in the lead, and replaced it with a new poll, titled "Who is Winning the Democratic Debate?"

When Kucinich was ahead in the second poll, ABC took that one down, as well.

They also ran a picture of the Democratic candidates, standing in a row—cropped at one end to cut Kucinich out of the picture.

My short-term response to this is outrage that ABC would do something like this, on one hand. On the other, I'm going to be watching closely to see which of the other candidates will come out against ABC on this issue. It's a real test of character.

My long-term view is that this is just one more example of greatest danger we face as human beings: the pooling of power in large corporations. The New Sharon Star, the little paper in my father's midwest home town, would never have pulled such a dirty trick. Probably that partly because the editor had integrity, but it's also because it didn't have the power of big money and market share. People would have held the Star accountable, and if they didn't, the paper in the next town would have.
